There are a few ways you can jazz up a boring workout routine, and it is vital that you keep it interesting or you risk get bored and losing interest!
Keep it fresh and most of all fun as if you enjoy your workouts then you are more likely to stick to doing them. Working out is all about being consistent and you can only be consistent if you are committed and commitment stems from being interested.
Check out these tips on what you can do to stay passionate about getting fit:
If you normally work your legs on a Monday and your cardio on a Wednesday, then try swapping them over and change your whole week workout plan. Too much routine = boring!
You can also play around with what you do and when — so if you usually start your swimming session with five laps of breaststroke, try starting it with five laps of crawl.
Working out with a buddy is a great way to keep motivated. You can socialize while you workout and you may also find that your new partner will provide you with new ideas on different exercises.
You can also change your exercises within your workout so if you usually start your weight lifting training with chest presses with the dumbbells swap it over to the bar for a week. Don’t be too monotonous or the boredom will creep in and your interest levels will drop.
The only way to improve is to push your limits more and if you don’t know what you usually do then you won’t know how or if you are improving. Write down what you do every time you workout, and the following week add on a few more — so if you normally run three miles take it up to three and half the following week and so on.
These are all things you can do to help you to keep your workouts fresh and fun, and you can also try doing something as simple as changing the music on your MP3 player to give you a new rhythm to work out to.
If you usually workout in your living room try taking it to your bedroom, and you can even buy new workout clothes once a month, and treat yourself to a new DVD to exercise to.
There are countless ways to keep it interesting but don’t expect to feel 100% committed every time workout time comes around. Changing up the routine stops the boredom — but actually getting down and dirty with your workout is up to you!
