It’s that time of year again when we are booking our summer holidays and wondering how on earth we will be able to rock the beach with our current bikini body…
Fear not, the beach is calling and you shall attend and what’s more, you will feel confident and proud of your new figure. Yes, you!
Follow these few rules for a couple of months and you will see and feel the difference in no time:
When I say cut down, it is important to stress that I only mean cut down and not cut out. A certain level of sugar and salt in our body is good for us and cutting it out completely will lead to huge pangs but replacing cookies and chocolate with fruit or a nutty snack bar will lead to you dropping pounds within weeks.
Salt dehydrates the body and leads to bloating and countless health problems so stop adding it to everything!
Yes, I know sounds like an obvious point to make right but too many of us get home from work and order a pizza because the kids want one or you have no time to cook. Try making up a bottle of olive oil and vinaigrette dressing so that when you get in, a tasty salad only involves half the work. Use fish or chicken to add more taste to your salad and throw in a few olives or walnuts for some variation. Treat yourself once every couple of weeks to whatever you want and you will soon find that you feel so drained from your non-nutritious food treats that you will actually be choosing the healthy option!
Swapping your junk food intake for healthy foods will boost your energy levels considerably, which will be needed in order to follow rule number 3…
Before you scream at the screen and tell me you can’t afford to pay the extortionate gym fees and you have no spare time to go anyway, hear me out. If you can get to the gym then great but there are plenty of ways of increasing your exercise levels at home. Walk the dog, play with the kids down the park, buy a keep fit video, invest in a Wii Keep Fit and get the kids involved at the same time, make it your daily goal to complete 20 takes up and down the stairs, and get out of bed and do 20 crunches.
All of these activities don’t have to take long, most of them are free and best of all they can be teamed up with another activity so when you walk the dog you could take a jog and when you are looking after the kids you can play on the Wii. Simple yet effective.
These are all fairly simple steps to take and with a little common sense you can take to the beach this summer and feel healthy both inside and out.
And here’s an idea to make your life easier the following year; keep up the good work after your holiday to ensure you can rock the beach whenever the whim takes you…
